About

Rachel La Fein

My parents gifted me paperback copies of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series when I was 9. The books are so dog-eared, creased and worn, I can hardly see what the cover picture is anymore because I read them so many times. I became convinced for many years afterward that if I could only find the right secret passageway, only find the right animal to talk to, I would be transported to Narnia and have all kinds of enthralling and escapist adventures, but alas, as with some of the children in the stories, it was not to be.
Now I write my way there instead, because though those threshold passageways may still be hidden to my physical eyes, I have not given up hope yet that maybe, just around that bend in the trail there, a shimmering fairy gateway will appear from underneath a fallen log through which a new world will beckon…
I have been a lover of the fantastical, the archetypal, and mysterious realms my whole life. Stories with these elements become the magic carpet ride into our creative imagination and offer metaphors for strengthening ourselves in difficult circumstances and show us how to create meaningful friendships or perhaps are simply a way to Go. Somewhere. Else.
My undergraduate degree is in Creative Writing with Distinction. I taught high school English, Photography and Drama in a small mountain town in Northern California for 29 years during which I wrote, produced and directed three of my own plays (besides the 23 others I directed and produced), had two gallery photography shows, (one collaborative, one on my own) took students traveling on educational tours around the world, and in the midst of all that, have managed to celebrate 41 years of marriage to the same wonderful man, raise 3 children, garden, hike, travel with family, and finish my fantasy trilogy of approximately 1200 pages. I am still in awe as to how I accomplished completing these novels!
Currently my first novel in my Song Mage series, Song of the Mage, is with my assessment editor, with a plan to publish by March of 2026. The two other books in the series, Song of the Bluewood Tree and Song of the Dragon, have yet to be revised and edited. I plan to begin on the second book starting in March of next year, with hope of completion by end of fall2026.
Thank you for visiting my site! I would love to hear from you :)

P.S. I do not use AI in my writing. However all of the fantasy images on this site are AI generated as I am creating my own website and haven't seen any dragons around lately to photograph. I hope to have human created art posted here soon!
